Multiword Expression Reading Group
- 5 Oct, 2001
- Basic outline of multiword expression project, based on the NSF
- Differences in British/Australian and U.S. English made a reasonable proportion of cited examples opaque without explanation, but otherwise, relatively uncontroversial.
- Question of partial compositionality of "words with spaces" ad hoc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum, due to clear sense of "to" for ad. But obvious differences between speakers as to the level of processing that goes on here, and syntactically speaking, largely irrelevant as this would not appear to have any obvious lexical side effects.
